And that’s really great for everybody trying to do business on the internet.
I won’t lie. We’re big Cloudflare fans here at the Security7 offices. We like how they operate. They understand how website security should work. It’s why we’re so excited Cloudflare has recently announced they’ll be offering domain registration services.
What is Domain Registration?
Domain registration is the process of registering a domain name, which identifies one or more IP addresses with a name that is easier to remember and use in URLs to identify particularWeb pages. The person or business that registers domain name is called the domain name registrant.
Why Would You Use Cloudflare to Protect Your Domain?
So basically, as stated above, registering a URL creates a shortcut people can use to find your website easily via the internet. Pretty straight forward. Once you register your domain, you supply your nameservers to the Domain Name System, which in turn directs traffic to your website’s IP address.
When you protect your domain with Cloudflare, the nameservers change from the ones at your registry to ones provided by Cloudflare directly. After the switch, Cloudflare assumes responsibility for your DNS and begins the process of making your website faster and safer.
I’m not going to get into the nitty-gritty details, but you can get into it here.
Why Should You Use Cloudflare to Register Your Domain?
If you’re planning to protect your domain with Cloudflare after you register it, it makes some sense to skip the middle man and register it with them, to begin with. I mean, there’s no point in going to a different grocery store for something if the one you’re in carries the same item.
That’s just how my brain works; it might be the way your mind works too. If it’s not, however, Cloudflare makes a pretty compelling case why you should use them, and you should read it.
There’s no way that I can adequately argue a case for Cloudflare’s domain registrar service better than they can, but I will say, personally, and having dealt with other Registrars, I like the pitch they’re making.
Registering a domain isn’t an easy, or enjoyable, process. As Cloudflare states in their blog post, you can’t make it through the domain purchasing process without countless upsells and sales pitches. It’s obnoxious. As a digital marketer, I understand the want to capture as much market share as possible. As a consumer, I can’t stand the mentality.
Having worked a bit with Cloudflare both privately and professionally, I appreciate the level of transparency they operate with internally, I respect the level of honesty Cloudflare bring to the table with them when doing business with their customers, and I admire their commitment to keeping their word when it comes to delivering a secure and stable product.
Cloudflare, at least up until this very moment in time, has been a company I trust. It’s a company Security7 is proud to declare a partner in our mission to make next-gen cybersecurity products readily available to small to medium-sized businesses and enterprises that are backed with numerous years of experience and understanding.
I see no reason for that to change going forward.
