This past Christmas, iPhones, Android devices and other smartphones were unwrapped. According to a Santa Clarita, California news website, there will be over 20 million smartphones given as gifts during the 2012 holiday season. Many of these recipients will want to start using their new smartphone right away and many will not know how to secure these new devices.

Mobile security threats are increasing each year. In 2011 threats to popular mobile platforms increased 367% according to the article. Mobile device users must be protected from growing risks from viruses, malicious applications and mobile device theft.

The Federal Communication Commission (FCC) has recently launched a Smartphone Security Checker, an online tool to help smartphone users with security steps customized for many of the popular smartphone platforms.

Partnering with many of the leading smartphone manufacturers and security organizations such as BlackBerry, McAfee, Symantec, Sophos and many others, the smartphone security service is a must for any mobile device user.

Visit https://www.fcc.gov/smartphone-security and take the required steps to secure your smartphone and prevent hackers and others from causing havoc.

When you go to the website listed above, you will need to check your device, select Apple iOS, Android, BlackBerry or Windows Phone.  Follow the ten customized steps and tips to protect your device.
