Skype For BusinessWith the launch of Microsoft’s Skype for Business (Lync), new capabilities are finally surfacing.

This is big news as these capabilities will soon be available at no extra cost for Office 365 Enterprise or Skype for Business Plan 2 subscribers. After patiently waiting for more features on Skype for Business, Microsoft announced 3 new services:

  1. Skype Meeting Broadcast: This enables you to broadcast Skype for Business meetings on the Internet. This allows up to 10,000 people attend by only using a browser.
  2. PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) Conferencing: This allows invited attendees to join a meeting by dialing-in using a landline or mobile phone. The service also allows people to add others to a meeting by dialing out.
  3. Cloud PBX with PSTN Calling: This provides users with the ability to make and receive traditional phone calls through the Skype for Business client. Other functions include hold, resume, forward and transfer. Later in the year, Cloud PBX customers worldwide will have the ability to use existing on-premises phone lines for inbound and outbound calling.

With the success of Office 365, Microsoft is investing in a complete enterprise-grade communication roadmap. Office 365 is creating strategic partnerships with AT&T, BT, Colt, Equinix, Level 3 Communications, Orange Business Services, TATA Communications, Telstra, Verizon and Vodafone.

According to Microsoft, these new services will bring traditional calling and conferencing into the new era of workplace communications. Expect to see these new changes towards the end of this year along with pricing and licensing details.
