Welcome back to our Team Highlight. Today, meet John from Integris’ Austin office.
Could you describe your role/what you do in 2-3 sentences?
I am an SA I for Integris Austin’s Technical Team. My team and I take on troubleshooting various issues for our clients, deploy and manage various-sized networks and LOB applications, and provide technical recommendations to address their most pressing IT concerns. We also serve as an escalation point to empower our Service Desk to provide best-in-class technical support.
How did you become interested in your profession as a career?
I started dabbling in the world of technology when I was around 13 years old when I met a man that taught me how to build my own computer. The feeling you get when you are able to create something is unmatched, and I was all in then. I always felt an inclination towards wanting to create and understand how and why things work the way they do.
What’s your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of my job is the reaction I get from clients when I resolve an issue that has been hindering them. Reminds me that what we do is actually making a difference and empowering people to do what they do.
Outside of work, what do you enjoy doing? What are some of your hobbies?
Gaming, music, sports, and family & friend time.
Your favorite game?
My favorite game as of date is NBA 2k. I haven’t been able to get out and play in recent years due to the pandemic, so this is the next best thing.
What are some things you love about the place you currently live?
It is far away from the city to get away from the traffic and noise, but close enough to drive in when needed.
Are you an early bird or a night owl?
I used to be a huge night owl – until my body started waking me up every morning before 7 AM, even on the weekends. I am a converted early bird…
Where do you see yourself 10 years from now? (Doesn’t have to be work-related!)
I see myself being a mentor to people who don’t have access to the resources on how to break into the world of IT. I hope to be able to bring IT mentorship to kids early on to ensure they are prepared to thrive in a technological world.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.
If you could have a superpower, what would you want and why?
The power to turn imagination into reality.
