by

February 4, 2013

Entrepreneurs can’t wait for the day they get their first prototype back from some overseas designer in China. A rite of passage for many however, the days of getting your prototype cheaply made in China is coming to an end with 3-D printers hitting the market for small businesses and entrepreneurs.

3-D printers allow for entrepreneurs to create innovative designs in the comfort of their home or company office. This technology is removing the mystery from the process, saving time and money allowing small businesses to compete with larger corporations.

A number of 3-D printing companies are now dotting the global landscape, meeting the growing demand and helping reshape the manufacturing sectors across the world.

3-D products are created by layering successive layers of material in a printer using leading digital technologies. It is a process called “additive manufacturing”. These 3-D printers are helping the aerospace, automotive, construction, and dental industries amongst many others.

3-D printing has been around for the past twenty years however recent price drops down to the $1500 to $5000 price range are fuelling sales of this 3-D technology. 3-D printers were once tens of thousands of dollars.
