What’s The Value Of Experience in IT Services Delivery?

In our 20th year of providing Baltimore IT services for an ever-growing network of clients, the Integris team takes a look at what that experience is really worth.

The world of IT is – all things considered – relatively new.

When compared to virtually any other industry of its size, the world of IT only recently left its infancy. What began as an industry focused on the break/fix model (that is, repairing computers and other hardware after they broke down) has matured into a fully managed service industry.

But still – it’s rather new, and constantly evolving.

All this is to pose the question…

Does Experience Really Matter In The IT World?

More than a few key qualities of IT services delivery would certainly lead you to believe so. Think about what makes IT services effective…

  • Knowledge of and capability with new technologies.
  • Adaptive and evolving service offerings that capitalize on trends.
  • The ability to anticipate new developments and get ahead of them.

For the most part, this all sounds like qualities you could find in an IT services company that’s less than five-years-old. What’s more, at a certain point, wouldn’t you start assuming that older IT companies don’t have the plasticity and the youth to keep up with changing technology trends?

Well, you’ve heard the saying – you know the problem with making assumptions.

What Are The Top 3 Reasons To Work With An Experienced Baltimore IT Company?

Sure, those qualities mentioned above are important, but there are a couple of problems with that line of thinking…

  • These are not the only qualities you should be looking for in an IT company. For everything a young business offers in flexibility and enthusiasm, they lack in a number of qualities offered by those with more experience – we’ll cover this in more detail below.
  • There’s no reason why the right experienced IT company can’t offer those qualities as well! The saying, “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” really only applies to those dogs that aren’t doing their part to keep learning.

The Integris team is proud to be celebrating our 20th year in business – a testament to the quality of our services.

What’s more, we don’t think that being a little more seasoned than the handful of new entries that enter the IT field every month makes us any less effective – in fact, it means quite the opposite.

Allow us to explain – here are three key reasons why working with an experienced IT company is always the right choice:

  1. IT Is About People – Not Technology.
That’s right, you didn’t read that wrong. While technology is certainly our stock and trade, we’ve been around long enough to learn that at its core (and like nearly any industry), the quality of our offering comes down to our customer service.Want to know a secret? Delivering IT solutions isn’t rocket science. Sure, it takes knowledge and a skillset, perhaps gained via a certification, technical college course, or computer programming degree – but all of this is to say it’s only one part of the process.Beyond making sure servers are configured right and Wi-Fi signals are strong, our team knows how important it is to pay attention to the people using that technology. That’s the foundation of effective IT support. Our clients work with us – and continue to work with us – because we respond when they get in touch. We find lasting solutions to their problems. We follow up whenever necessary. In short, we deliver unbeatable customer service, something that takes time to develop and perfect.
  2. Business Experience Is Invaluable.
Over our two decades in business, we’ve learned a lot – both about IT and otherwise. As vital as our knowledge of IT is to the services we deliver, our business acumen is just as important. Understanding, from firsthand experience, what a business’ needs are, and the challenges it puts up with every day, helps us to better match the right solutions to our client’s obstacles. Both in our personal business struggles, and those we’ve addressed for our many clients over the years, we’ve gained invaluable knowledge that directly applies to IT support.
  3. Experience Helps You Tell What’s A Trend and What’s A Gimmick.
Above we talked about how it’s important for an IT services company to capitalize on trends for their clients’ benefits. Frankly, that’s an oversimplification. The truth is that the IT industry is rife with new developments, each of which could be a real, beneficial trend to invest in – but it’s more likely to be a gimmick that won’t achieve much in the end.Telling the difference can be difficult, but it gets easier with time. Our team has seen countless IT fads come and go. Not everything is the “next cloud” – we’ve gotten pretty good at telling the difference.

Put simply? Experience can’t be bought or faked. The only way to get it is to put in the work and take the time.

The Integris team is proud to have made it two decades in this business, and we have our valued clients and superior service team to thank for that.

We're Integris. We're always working to empower people through technology.
